Amazing Advantages that a Torque Amplifier Offers
Most widely used on the differential analyzer and in the power steering on automobiles (especially farm tractors), a torque amplifier is a device that amplifies the torque of a rotating shaft without affecting its rotational speed. On the left side of the steering wheel in a farm tractor is a large lever. This is what a torque amplifier is. You pull and push it to control speed. In earlier times, electric-powered torque amplifier was used to allow manual control of heavy equipment.
So, a torque amplifier is
essentially two capstans that are connected together and pointed at each other
with a single rope. IH introduced torque amplifier seems like a minor
improvement now, in comparison to the full power shift transmissions that are
offered on today's high horsepower tractors. It gives farmers the ability to
shift a tractor down and generate more draft. This is extremely helpful when
farmers encounter a tough spot in the field where generating draft becomes a
challenge in itself.
The IH torque amplifier could be
called the first power shift transmission. Indeed! Because it allowed shifting
between gear sets while under power.
Here's how it works:
You just have to pull it back to
run slower and push it forward to speed back up. No need to use the clutch to
slow down or speed up! It's a gear reduction device and you don't need to use a
clutch along with it. Further, it works the same no matter if you have nothing
behind the tractor and ploughing.
